JDI Summer Pro-seminar Workshop (2 credits)
Registrants in the 2-credit seminar workshop are active MAPS students. They will prepare for taking an active role in the seminar by completing the background readings, by working toward their own research goals, and (at the end of their program) by presenting their work live as a seminar speaker. At least one MAPS pro-seminar workshop is required of every MAPS student.
Each Summer the MAPS program presents an extended seminar on diaconal ministry featuring speakers whose experience and knowledge have helped to shape the permanent diaconate in the United States. This MAPS program requires the 2-credit pro-seminar workshop for students in the MAPS program, but JDI students may participate in the 1-credit pro-seminar as respondents for a reduced fee.
The Summer Pro-seminar 2021 (MP730ME)
This year’s Summer Pro-seminar will once again be held online in four evening sessions throughout the month of July. Each session will feature a guest speaker, discussions of contemporary research into the diaconate, and presentations from our students in the MAPS program. Registration in the full two-credit pro-seminar workshop includes the preparation of readings and responses as well as active participation in discussions.
For the first time, we are also able to offer a one-credit registration for those students who would like to join the pro-seminar without the expectation of presenting research or taking an active part in live discussion.
The Summer Pro-seminar will take place online, over four evenings in July - Mondays and Thursdays, 7pm to 9:30pm EST. The dates are: July 18th, 21st, 25th, and 28th. A full list of speakers, and assigned readings for each session will be circulated in the first week of June.
