The Institute was founded in 2007 by the Pontifical College Josephinum. Since its founding, the Institute has become a recognized leader in diaconate formation and has provided formation for over 1,500 deacons across North America and beyond.
In addition to the formation of deacons, we are a recognized leader in furthering the understanding of the order of deacons and their role within the Church. Our senior leadership have experience as formation directors prior to joining the Josephinum.
Deacons in the Catholic Church are ordained ministers who exercise the three-fold ministry of Word, Liturgy, and Charity. Deacons work with their bishop, priests, and the laity to bring the ministry of Christ the Servant to the world. Formation for this ministry involves an in-depth process of discernment and study prior to ordination. For more information on becoming a deacon, contact your pastor or local diocesan office of the diaconate.
