The Josephinum Diaconate Institute offers a model core curriculum designed to meet the requirements of The National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States of America, 2nd ed. This core curriculum provides the intellectual formation for a five-year formation program and focuses students on the skills and knowledge necessary for diaconal ministry. This curriculum is available in both English and Spanish to accommodate dioceses with mixed-language groups.
The Institute works with dioceses to customize the curriculum for their specific needs. For example, some dioceses choose to teach some courses themselves or utilize other courses from our catalog, while others utilize the full curriculum from the Institute.
